On Sunday, January 28, 2018, Charles Schenck, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 88 years old. Chuck will be forever remembered by his wife, Donna Schenck, best friend, Larry Tate, his children and family.

Chuck was born an only child during the Great Depression. In 1936, his family moved to the small town of Buttonwillow, California, where he learned to love the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Chuck attended military school at 11 years old. The family then moved to Riverside, California where he graduated from Poly High School and Riverside Community College. In 1950, he was drafted into the US Army where he served overseas during the Korean War as a Military Policeman guarding POW’S 20 miles from the North Korean border. When he returned home in 1953, he married the love of his life, Donna Mae Bettis - they were married 65 years.

They raised three children, one son, and two daughters. Chuck's journey led him down many roads including 6th-grade teacher, Probation Officer, and semi-professional boxer and moving from Riverside, California to Columbia Falls, Montana and finally, settling in Nampa, Idaho where he worked at the Job Corp in Marsing as a counselor for troubled youth. He enjoyed the Nampa Recreation Center and loved to cycle around Lake Lowell. Chuck was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and a very patriotic man - he loved his country and our military. He loved to socialize, had many friends, and loved to tell stories (he could talk and visit for hours). He had a laugh that was contagious. Helived a long, good life.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Chuck Schenck; daughter, Trina Westberg; daughter, Tammy Chavez; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Chuck is preceded in death by one grandson, SSG Eric C. Schenck on December 8, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Avenue South, Nampa, ID on February 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. There will be a reception at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel following the committal service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
