Tribute

Dorothy “Dottie” Franklin peacefully passed away on 7/10/2021 in Caldwell, ID with her children beside her.

Dottie was born 7/13/1930 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Marion and Rosetta Cole. She was the oldest of 3 children. Throughout her childhood she moved all over the country due to her father’s work building freeways as a heavy equipment operator. After high school, she worked at a motel in Greeley, Colorado where she met a man named Homer  “Frankie” Franklin. He took one look at her and knew he was going to marry her. After a very short courtship they married on 10/17/1949. Frankie and Dottie raised their family of 5 children as they moved both domestically and abroad with the Air Force. She was a dedicated military wife and served her country, husband, and family well. She and Frankie celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed in 2000.

After moving all throughout her life Dottie and her family settled in Nampa, ID in 1966. She was a devoted mother, and also became very involved in volunteering and leading circle groups at First United Methodist Church in Nampa. Dottie was skilled at making crafts and her family will always remember her by the many beautiful keepsakes she created. She loved celebrating holidays, especially Christmas, and for many years her home was a gathering place for the family on special occasions.

Her parents, her sister and her husband precede her in death. She is survived by her brother, Lester Cole, and her 5 children: Barbara Franklin, Robert (Julia) Franklin, Debbie (Dave) Mashburn, Lana Franklin (TJ Langham) and Mike (Cheri) Franklin, along with many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
