Elton A. "Gus" Robinson
August 21, 1927 ~ May 9, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years OldElton A. “Gus” Robinson passed away peacefully at his home in Melba on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Gus was born in Burley, ID on August 21, 1927, to parents Samuel E. Robinson and Florence Harrington Robinson. He was the fifth child of six, three of whom died in childhood. They were Samuel, Jr., Ralph, and Viretta.
Gus was also preceded in death by his brother, Merville A. Robinson of Oreana. Surviving is his sister, Eva Mae Robinson Johnston of Nampa, his sister-in-law Peggy Johnston Robinson of Oreana, and seven nieces and nephews: Irene Chandler, Carol Shaffer, Ralph Robinson, Paula Ness, Sam Johnston, Celia Boland and Russell Johnston.
Gus attended Boise Jr. College, playing football under Coach Lyle Smith. He then joined the Air Force in 1948, working as a B-50 aircraft engine mechanic during the Korean War. Later in life he worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle and at Harrah’s Club in Reno, Nevada.
”Uncle Gus” was a gentle giant, loved by his family and many generous friends in Melba. A short graveside service in his honor will be held on Monday, May 15, at 2:00 PM at Melba Cemetery. Any donations may be sent to the Melba Senior Center. Gus said, “I’m a believer, but not a church man” so, as he always said, “I’ll see you when I see you”.
