November 18, 1958 ~ July 23, 2022 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Tribute

Gary Lee Olmsted (AKA) Buzzyrd, passed away at home on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 at the age of 63. He was born in Nampa, Idaho on November 18, 1958 to Donovan L. and Marjorie J. Scurlock Olmsted. In 1991, at age 32, Gary enrolled in a Harley Davidson mechanics trade school in Jacksonville, Florida. His dream was to open and operate a Harley Davidson sales and repair shop in Boise, ID.  While attending School in Jacksonville, he suffered an accident while swimming in the ocean that left him paralyzed from the neck down.  He then returned to Nampa where he lived until his passing.  He never lost his love for Harley Davidson motorcycles.  He remained close with the Harley community in Nampa, especially with the Members of Brother Speed, who he considered his “brothers”. Gary loved any time he could spend with them. He also loved his Friday dates at Club 102, and all the friends he made there.  He looked forward to the annual Halloween Bash held at the Nampa Clubhouse, where he could visit with all of his biker friends.  He would spend all year talking about, and planning for, “the next years Bash”.  The world of Harley Davidson Motorcycles and Lynard Skynard music were at the core of his being.  Gary also had a deep love for the Green Bay Packers, NASCAR, and rodeo.  He had a soft spot for animals, especially kittens.

Gary had a deep love for his family and was especially close to his mom.  They are now celebrating their long awaited reunion.

Lori Barnes, there are no words to express the gratitude for the many ways you took care of Gary over the years.  He loved you.  And to Uncle Larry for all the visits and unconditional love which meant the world to him.

Gary is survived by Sherri Olmsted (sister), Lori Barnes (partner/caregiver), Larry and Beth Olmsted (uncle/aunt), Dorthy Bowen (aunt).  He is also survived by his common law family, Ashley Hirschi (daughter), Cody, Amanda, & Hunter Barnes (son, daughter-in-law, and grandson), Frank Barnes (father-in-law), Traci and Alexis (aka Goober) Brown (sister, neice).

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Micki (Michelle) (youngest sister), Lyle & Myrtle Olmsted (grandparents), Virgil & Rose Scurlock (grandparents), Dick & Burdette King (uncle/aunt).

Buzzyrd, you’re definitely one of a kind.  Thank you for continually spreading your unmatchable sense of humor despite your heavy challenges. You kept us all laughing.  You endured what most of us could not have, and yet you were the one to make sure we all had something to laugh at and smile about.  Job well done.  You are finally out of the chair, and back on your Harley.  Ride high, ride free my dear brother.  You are forever Loved.

To Gary: Hun, thank you for showing me what love was, especially over the almost nine years.  I will forever cherish the stories, memories, and love we shared together.  You are now free from all of the pain you endured over the years.  I will love and miss you always ‘til we meet again! Fly high! Lori
