Geraldine Rau

Geraldine Marie Wall opened her eyes on the world in Roswell, Idaho the 24th of November 1917, the second child of Herbert Vern Wall and Martha Ann Hamilton Wall. Gerry passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018.

A bright, lively child, she attended Lone Tree School, then Roosevelt School, graduating 8th grade as valedictorian. She was in the class of 1936 at Nampa High School. With a friend and neighbor she began attending youth group at Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa. There she met Dave Rau. She soon became baptized and confirmed into the church on April 19, 1936. Romance blossomed and Gerry and Dave became husband and wife May 9, 1936 in Zion Lutheran Church. They were lifelong members of the church. Two years later they began their family, three daughters and a son over the next eight years. Once all the children left high school for college or career, Gerry took up her second career; receptionist, photographer’s assistant, and general all-around worker at Chapin’s Studio in Nampa. After twenty years she retired to caring for her home and garden. She never saw a weed she didn’t pull! Dave passed away March 26, 2003 after nearly 67 years of marriage.

Her survivors include her four children and their spouses, Donna (Virtus) Young, Jeannie (Michael) Anderson, Carol (Bill) Hobdy, and David (Joanne) Rau; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorotha Carlson and Velma Schaller, and one sister-in-law, Martha Weymouth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The celebration of a life well-lived and well-loved will begin with a receiving Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel (404 10th Avenue South, Nampa, Idaho) from 5:00-7:00PM. Funeral service will begin at 11:00AM Friday, October 5, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church (404 Nectarine St., Nampa, Idaho). Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the charity of choice.
