James Roy Chaney

James Roy Chaney left the restrictions of his earthly body on May 3, 2023 surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was born on December 29, 1941 in Nyssa, Oregon.  He graduated from Adrian high school in 1960 after growing up on the family ranch with 10 brothers and sisters.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1960, serving as an airplane mechanic during the time leading up to the United States entrance into the Vietnam War.

His son, Leslie James Chaney was born during a brief first marriage.  He then married Carol Evalena Hisey on September 6, 1963 in Rochester, Indiana.  They would have celebrated sixty years of marriage this coming September.  Carol brought a daughter, Carmen Denise, to this union and three more daughters were added over the years:  Eugenia Lucette, Kirsten Dione Lynn and Marilynn JoAnn.

Jim enjoyed an extensive career as a truck driver, eventually visiting 49 of 50 United States and delivered loads to all 10 Canadian Provinces over the decades.  After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with grandkids and great-grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Carol, his four daughters and their spouses:  Carmen and Jeff Classen, Eugenia Chaney, Kirsten Chaney and Marilynn Chaney and one son, Leslie Chaney.  He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses:  Tama and Mike Small, Chelsea and Andrew Patton, Courtney and Javier DeAnda, Charity and Aaron Risser, Ashley and Shawn Albano, Abigail and Edmilson Silva, Lydia and Eric Palmer and Matthew Chaney, along with David Chaney, Katelyn Garner, Brittany Garner and Amber Garner.  There are 16 surviving great-grandchildren with two more arriving this year.  He is also survived by two brothers David Chaney and Samuel Chaney and one sister, Lynn Graham.

Preceding him in death were his parents Horace and Angeline Chaney, along with seven siblings.

A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday May 11, 2023 at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 10am Friday May 12, 2023 at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel.
