Marlene Kay June

July 31, 1944 ~ June 12, 2021 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Tribute

Marlene Kay June, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on June 14th, 2021. After a brief battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Marlene was the daughter of Hazel Irene Fulton and John Mitchell. She was the third child born to the couple. Her siblings included her older sister Evelyn, older brother Richard, and youngest of the family was Dennis. Marlene moved from Iowa to Idaho when she was 14. The two oldest children, Evelyn and Richard, stayed behind while Mom started a new life with her mother and little brother, Dennis. Upon moving to Nampa, the family lived in a small house right across from Nampa High School where she attended and then graduated in 1961.  She went on to attend Beauty College and was then employed at Wretha’s Beauty Salon in Nampa.  She worked for Wretha for 20+ years and was one of the top operators in the valley. I remember Mom’s clients thought so highly of her.  Christmas time in our house was a buffet of candy and cookies that the ladies would bring in as gifts for mom.

In 1963, Marlene married Wesley June. They were married a total of 35 years, having three kids.  Our family was Mom’s life.  Every time she would see one of us kids, her face would light up.  She hated to see our family time end on Sundays. Things were not always a picture of perfection, but we were real. We loved, lived, fought sometimes, but always loved each other.

Marlene was always an active member of church.  I remember as a child she would wake us all up for church, usually singing as she got ready. All three of us would begrudgingly get up, but mom’s infectious happiness and love of the Lord would carry over to us, and soon we were up and going. She was a member of Bowmont Church of the Brethren for many years, and more recently The Calvary Church of Nampa. It did not matter where she worshipped, you would always find her part of the choir or what every singing group the church had. Our mother was a beautiful soul with the voice of an angel and could usually be found singing through her days.

Mom was an avid crocheter and crafter, always making gifts for others. If you were a friend of Marlene, chances are you have a hand crocheted washcloth in your drawer. She would make sure for every single holiday we kids had a present. Even if it was something silly, it was from the heart, and we loved her for that.

This short obituary of my Mother does not do her justice.  She was so much more than just words on paper.  She was loved more then she even knew.  I hope you can see us now and know the love we have for you. Marlene, you will live in our hearts and memories forever. You may be gone, but never forgotten.  We love you, Momma.

We want to thank Horizon Home Health and Hospice for their care of Mom, although short. They helped us through a very tough time.  They showed grace and respect for Mom clear to the end.

We also want to thank the members of Calvary Church of Nampa and Pastor Anders Snyder for providing food and comfort in Mom’s last days, and after her passing, helping the family in our time of need and sorrow.

She is survived by Wesley June; son Curtis June; daughters Angela Calhoun and Alana Dunn; and daughter-in-law Andrea June. As well as her grandchildren, Sydney Calhoun and Brendon Calhoun. She was also blessed with four step-grandchildren: Kristina, Takara, Charles, Benjamin and their spouses. Along with eight great grandchildren:  Kaitlin, Hunter, Karissa, Sara, Nathan, Emily, Kaden and Kevin. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Carpenter, stepfather Neil Carpenter, father John Mitchell, and brother Richard Mitchell.
