Roberta Wylene Vaughn

December 17, 1933 ~ November 25, 2022 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Tribute

The 88 years that Roberta Wylene Vaughn lived cannot be contained by mere words. Those who have come to honor her bring memories far more tender and endorsing than what can be said here. However, there are some truths to share about this remarkable woman who made a significant and lasting impact during her life.

A lifelong Idahoan, Roberta was born, grew up, married, raised children and faithfully served her community in some of the most beautiful country in the United States. Before the Christmas holiday in 1933, on Dec 17, she was born to DeRoy and Lucille Jones. She was born at home up Hatter Creek, attended school at Princeton, and along with her family, friends, and beloved horse; she explored and enjoyed the rolling hills of home.

On August 29, 1958, she married Robert L. Vaughn. Roberta was a loving and devoted partner to Bob for 57 years until his passing in 2015. They shared many adventures during his career as a Fish Hatchery Superintendent for the Idaho Fish and Game.

Roberta embodied the role of servant leader. She was deeply embedded in her community and her efforts made each place she served stronger and better. She was a 4-H leader, a Girl Scout troop leader and neighborhood chairman, PTA president, Cub Scout den mother and served countless hours as an American Legion Auxiliary president and member in Nampa. She never wasted a minute, shared her treasure, time and talent with anyone in her company, and made the most of whatever she had. Her values and the examples she set as she demonstrated them made a lasting impression on others, especially her five children.

While she led her community and raised her family, Roberta was also an essential worker. She prepared and catered meals for employees at Hewlett Packard, patients and employees at Mercy Medical Center and Magic Valley Memorial Hospital and attendees at a church camp in McCall. One of her toughest vocational assignments however, was driving a school bus for the Meridian School District.

Roberta’s final months were supported by many attentive staff members and friends at Arbor Village at Hillcrest and The Pointe -- Meridian. Her family is grateful for the loving care they provided in the last chapter of her physical life.

There are many who welcomed Roberta in heaven: her parents DeRoy and Lucille Jones, her husband Robert Vaughn, her brothers Lorraine, Francis and Harold Buhl, her sisters Loretta Howell and Merle and Betty Jones, and her great grandson Jordan Goodwin. What a loving celebration awaited her when she arrived!

Please remember Roberta’s survivors as they mourn her loss. There are many who were shaped by her example, grew strong in her love and will deeply miss her physical presence. Pray for her brother Garry Jones of Potlatch; her children, Loree Haulman and husband Landis; Joseph Vaughn; Janet Vaughn; Jay Vaughn and wife Cassie; and Rob Vaughn and wife Melanie. Pray also for her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. Roberta’s legacy was truly one of love. May you love as she was loved and as she loved.
